New Art Exhibit: Brian Petro

Posted by Edward Bronson

Vastu again welcomes artist Brian Petro back to our walls March 25th through early June. From classic floral and sculptural imagery in his signature transfer style, to his fresh new chunky oil paint abstracts and scrawled quirky painted drawings, Brian elicits comfort, joy, and humor in this show.

His work represents his wandering and wondering mind. He credits his style to the dichotomy between his supportive, rural, central-Pennsylvanian upbringing and the brutal independence of urban life. Global travel and urban exploration fuel his search for images, ideas and processes.

Brian is presently represented by galleries in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Rehoboth Beach. His work is also on display in venues in Brazil, England, Italy and Hong Kong.

Platevase: Pile ‘em high

Posted by Edward Bronson

This calm and sophisticated two-tiered serving platter has a top pocket to pop decorations in to garnish what you’re serving. The design has no frills or pattern, so steers well clear of chi-chi alarm bells. There are a million cake stands, fruit bowls, candle holders and vases on the market – but this one lets you do it all in one sleek product.

The vase is deep enough to stand alone, and the plate shelves can hold a generous amount. If you’re a fan of the cake-stand trend and also of small-space living, you’ll get along well with this piece of decorative item.

In plain white ceramic, the platevase can adapt to any dish, and tidily combines a table decoration with a functional piece. It can just as easily hold a birthday sparkler and colored fairy cakes as a sprig of greenery or flowers and fruit for more everyday use.

The Curious Gardener

Posted by Edward Bronson

I so excited to see this new product line from designer Trish Papadakos because it fits our April theme of green perfectly. Trish is based in Toronto and just launched her first collection of homewares with the theme The Curious Gardener. The botanical cutting boards are my favorite but Trish also designed some really lovely floral tags, embroidered bedding and plant markers. Click here to check them out in more detail and shop online. That bedding above is just gorgeous- it reminds me of something that the Elves in Lord of the Rings would have in their home. Which, as a LOTR fan, is high praise.

Samsung Chromebox: On a cloud

Posted by Edward Bronson

A bit of a gearhead, I get excited for products that I may not necessarily need or that I wont use for months after I buy it. Additionally, terrified by clutter, I love tools that condense a lot of stray things into one whole. The new Chromebox by Samsung is a desktop alternative to the light, super fast Chromebooks that straddle the off and online computing worlds. And the Chromebox is one of these products that would clear a lot of space from my desk and motivate a lot of idle fiddling with the cloud-based application experience.

The Chromebox is plain white, no bigger than a novel at around eight inches square, and it features all the input and output potential a much larger laptop or desktop computer offers. Certainly you need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but the Chromebox maximizes its skills as a swift, lightweight, and mighty cloud computer.
