Aprons make charming home-sewn gifts. Even someone who is not in the habit of wearing an apron will appreciate the time and thought that went into making a special gift just for them. I used to seldom wear aprons, but now that I often cook in my work clothes I find that aprons are very helpful. If you spill something it is much better to have it land on an apron that can be tossed into the wash at leisure, rather than trying to remove a stain from clothes which must be worn to work the next day.
Aprons are simple and quick to make. They are ideal first projects for beginners. Simplicity makes several attractive apron patterns. McCalls and Butterick also have a nice selection of apron patterns.
