We like puns as much as the next person but when Charmin asked consumers to “get behind” its “Enjoy the go” contest, even we felt a bit squeamish. And that’s after testing countless rolls of toilet paper in Consumer Reports’ labs.
Charmin says on its website that it wants to “create a movement where the entire nation can enjoy a better bathroom experience. We’re calling it the Charmin Go Nation. It’s made up of people who actually enjoy going to the bathroom because they have Charmin bathroom tissue.”
Indeed. The company is looking for a person who’s passionate about Charmin toilet paper and willing to say so in a two-minute video or an in-person audition. The deadline for entries is Sunday November 7. Five contestants will win a trip to New York City to compete in a final event for the $50,000 grand prize. The winner also earns the title of King or Queen of the Throne. And while it may not be Monaco, the TP royalty will rule over the Charmin Restrooms in Times Square for four days this holiday season, greeting visitors. (Over the holidays, Charmin hosts 20 “clean, comfortable” bathrooms in Times Square.)
When we tested toilet paper, Charmin Ultra Strong was near the top of our Ratings (available to subscribers). It was also among the most expensive and was slow to disintegrate, a concern if you have a septic system or family members who love Charmin so much they use reams of it.
If you’re a little shy about your bathroom habits, Charmin is also sponsoring a mobile phone app that’ll help you find a restroom in an unfamilair city. Now that’s something we can get behind.
