Ribboned Wood Furniture – Yvette Cox’s Florence Coffee Table was Created Using Steam Bending (TrendHunter.com)
It is as though designers, both up-and-coming as well as veterans, are looking for ways to spice up minimalist furniture pieces; take the Florence Coffee Table as an example. Although at first glance it may appear to be a purposeful mess of a creation due to the chaotic ribboned support beneath its tabletop surface, it is actually a pretty simple piece. Made to look as though it were crafted out of a single piece of wood using a Steam Bending technique, the Florence Coffee Table is nevertheless a sculptural wonder, more art than furniture, thats for sure.
Designed by recent grad Yvette Cox, the Florence Coffee Table debuted during the New Designers 2011 exhibit in London. Its natural aesthetic and 13 fluid twisting pieces most likely made a big impact at the show.
