This blog is normally all about home decor, fabrics and other interior design ideas.  But this button floral idea was just too cute to pass up!  The excellent how-to can be found here and is made available from Jones Design Company.

This clever use of buttons makes it possible to re-use all of those leftover buttons that you have been accumulating for years.  You know, the ones that come with a shirt or jacket that you haven’t worn in years or all those old buttons you cut off of clothing before you give it away.  Maybe you are lucky enough, as I am, to have a box full of buttons that your mother and grandmother saved for years.  I loved to play with those buttons as a kid and my daughter loved to count and sort them when she was a toddler and they are one of my most beloved treasures.  How fun to showcase some of them in this fashion.

Did you hear the news?  Polka dots are back in fashion, both in clothing and in home decor.  No longer meant for a child’s room, polka dots are popping up on fabric, furniture and accessories for many areas of your home.

  • Polka dots will add a whimsical touch to any room in your home and when used in a sophisticated neutral, like these chairs, they lose all resemblance to a child’s space.

 

  • If you prefer something a bit more “in your face” how about a bright red tablecloth sprinkled with cheery white polka dots; sure to wake you up in the morning.

Just as we get used to the new trends in color and patterns for home decorating “they” add some new ideas.  Who are “they”?; they are the color gurus found at places like The Color Marketing Group  (CMG) and Pantone.  Their job is to forecast the colors that will be popular in both fashion and home design and offer reasons that explain their choices.  For the upcoming fall season they have chosen warm and familiar colors that draw on the previous season’s colors.  This is in keeping with the popular idea of re-using and re-purposing, i.e.
